Temporary bridge construction in Finland & Northern Sweden

Temporary bridges quickly provide a platform for safe working. They act as working platforms, temporary structures, formwork supports, and maintenance walls during the construction project. A temporary bridge is usually built on piles and is dimensioned to withstand the designed loads and load-bearing capacity even under demanding conditions. They are used particularly in waterway construction but are also suitable for dry land where the soil does not have sufficient bearing capacity.

The construction of temporary bridges contributes to safety on the site, as they enable an efficient working environment and smooth and sustainable logistics for transport to the site. A well-designed and constructed temporary bridge reduces risks, improves labour productivity and supports the successful completion of a construction project on schedule. They are also an environmentally friendly choice as they can be dismantled at the end of the construction project.

Varying conditions

When building bridges, particular attention should be paid to safety at work, as work is often carried out near water or at height. Fall protection and life jackets are essential safety equipment when working on a bridge. With the right equipment and skills, work can be safe and efficient.

We also have experience of working from a ferry in connection with the construction of the Hailuoto temporary bridge. We are able to take into account the challenging environment and climate and still build the temporary bridges accurately and safely.

Carefully planned implementation

With machine guidance systems, temporary bridges can be built in the right place anywhere, even on water where there are no markings on the ground. The machine control system gives the machine operator the positions of the bridge structures, such as piles. If required, we can also provide the design of the work bridges through a partner.

Experience in large projects

HVM Infra has experience in large bridge projects. An example is the construction of the Hailuoto fixed link temporary bridge. The bridge had a total length of 700 metres and a deck area of 11 800 m2, requiring 20 000 metres of piles.

We have also carried out larger sites to, for example:

Oulu Tuira bridge

Tampere Särkänsilta bridge

Kitee Syrjäsalmi bridge

When are temporary bridges used?

Construction and repair of water bridges

A temporary bridge provides a safe and load-bearing working platform when direct work from the water or shore is not possible.

Implementation of bridge formwork and scaffolding works

The temporary bridge provides a stable and safe platform for formwork and scaffolding structures, as well as for their installation and dismantling.

New build and renovation of bridges

The temporary bridge enables the efficient movement of materials and equipment throughout the construction process.

Construction site traffic in challenging terrain

In terrain with poor load-bearing capacity or difficult access, a temporary bridge ensures the smooth and safe movement of machines and vehicles on the construction site.
